John James Audubon's illustration of the Zenaida Dove (Zenaida aurita) celebrates a graceful Caribbean bird recognized by its warm brown plumage, softly rounded body, and delicate iridescent markings along the neck. This gentle species inhabits tropical woodlands, coastal scrub, and open landscapes throughout the Caribbean, where it forages on the ground for seeds and other plant material.
