John James Audubon's illustration of Selby's Flycatcher, historically identified as Muscicapa selbii, depicts a delicate songbird with brilliant yellow underparts, olive-green upper plumage, and finely detailed wings. Perched upon a slender stalk of pheasant's eye adorned with feathery foliage and two vivid red blossoms, the bird creates a graceful botanical composition that beautifully balances colorful ornithological detail with the simplicity of natural-history illustration.
