John James Audubon's illustration of the Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus) features a delicate North American finch distinguished by its finely streaked brown plumage, slender pointed bill, and subtle flashes of yellow along its wings and tail. This lively little songbird inhabits coniferous forests and wooded landscapes, where it often gathers in flocks to feed on seeds from pine cones, alders, and other trees.
