John James Audubon's illustration of the Northern Parula (Setophaga americana), historically known as the Blue Yellow-back Warbler, depicts two colorful songbirds with brilliant blue-gray upperparts, golden-yellow throats, and beautifully patterned wings. Perched upon the tall green stems of a flowering Louisiana iris, with dramatic reddish-orange blossoms rising above them, the birds create an elegant botanical composition that combines delicate ornithological detail with vibrant floral illustration.
