John James Audubon's illustration of the Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) captures a lively little songbird distinguished by its warm cinnamon-brown plumage, bold white eyebrow, and characteristically upright tail. Known for its surprisingly powerful and cheerful song, this familiar species inhabits wooded gardens, brushy thickets, and forest edges throughout the southeastern United States.
