John James Audubon's illustration of the Acadian Flycatcher (Empidonax virescens) celebrates a small woodland songbird distinguished by its olive-green upperparts, pale yellowish underparts, subtle eye ring, and contrasting wing bars. This elusive North American species inhabits shaded deciduous forests, where it perches quietly among branches before darting into the air to capture flying insects.
